Death's Call Dr. Charles Black Passed Away at His Home in Turtle Creek

Dr. Charles Homer Black, of Turtle Creek, brother of mayor Robert J. Black of this city, died suddenly last evening at 6 o'clock at his home after a two months' illness from lung trouble. His death was unexpected, as on New Year's Day he showed decided improvement.

Dr. black was born in 1847, at Tarentum, PA. With his two brothers, John and R. J., he studied medicine and built up an extensive practice in McKeesport, where he lived for about 30 years. Two years ago he removed to Turtle Creek. With his brother, the mayor, he was among the first gas and oil operators in the Monongahela valley. They sank $50,000 in oil and Charles is the second of the trio of brothers to die in a little more than a year, John the eldest, having died at Duquesne.

Dr. Black was a graduate of Jefferson Medical College, and immediately after receiving his diploma, he opened his office in Elizabeth. Later he came to McKeesport. He remained here until two years ago, when he removed his family to Turtle Creek, attending to what practice his health would permit.

Dr. Black is survived by his wife and five children: Samuel H., employed by the Monongahela Light company; Emmett, Charles, Stella and Jennie, all but Samuel residing at home. His father, Samuel Black, 82 years old, also survives and makes his home with the mayor. Dr. Black was a member of the Masonic lodge of Elizabeth, the Heptasophs and Maccabees.

Mayor and Mrs. Black went to Turtle Creek immediately on the receipt of Dr. Black's death. The funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2 o'clock p.m. at the late residence at Turtle Creek, and the remains will be interred in Versailles cemetery, this city. McKeesport friends desiring to attend the funeral can go to Wilmerding by trolley and change cars on the Turtle Creek branch. The cars pass the house. --
